January Unit Details:

The Winter session of Kindermusik will run 6 weeks in length beginning the week of January 8.  Enrollment includes a 1-hour in studio experience each week, CD of unit music and online enrichment resources through my.kindermusik.com for at-home exploration with our unit theme all week long. $75/child + $37.50/each sibling in same or different class.

Foundations for children from birth to age 1: A classic favourite, filled with the sounds and sights of the farm, our unit Old McDonald, this January is packed with fun animal-themed activities that emphasize focus, listening discrimination, memory and cognition.

Level 1 for crawlers & walkers up to age 2: Nothing could be better than our unit Playtime! this January which is all about fun and predictability.  Do it, then do it once more.  That was fun, let’s do it again!  This unit is a non-stop play-fest that stresses the developmental value of predictability, repetition and play.

Level 2 for preschoolers 2-4 years of age:  Get ready for lots of ribbity-hopping, trumpety-stomping, and oinkity-rolling this January! You will love moving every which way while singing the songs of our animal friends.

Level 3 for preschoolers 3&4 years of age:
This drop-off style class for 3&4-year-olds fosters your child's growing independence while actively engaging their senses in a rich multi-sensory musical experience.  Parents/Caregivers & Siblings join for Sharing Time during the last 10 minutes each week. Enjoy Animals-A-Dancing this January.

Mixed-Age: Each Kindermusik family class is a happy shared experience full of singing, moving, cuddling, family jams, and more.  Whether you’re bringing one child or more, you’ll love the time to explore, discover, share, make friends, and just be together as you learn and play.  From newborn to Grandpa and everyone in between, there’s room in a Kindermusik class for everyone!  This January we’ll explore Animals-A-Dancing.

Parents LOVE Kindermusik classes too!

All you have to do is look around the classroom during a Kindermusik class, and you’ll see why children love Kindermusik so much — from beloved class routines to pint-sized friends to favorite instruments to that teacher they absolutely adore.  Look a little closer, and you’ll notice that the adults are really loving “their” Kindermusik too.  Here are some of the surprising reasons why.
You’ll Receive Great Parenting Support

This support comes in many different packages.  Sometimes it’s that hug of empathy when your child is having a bit of a rough day.  Sometimes it’s that spontaneous celebratory cheer of delight when your child takes his first steps in class.  Sometimes it’s sharing the joy as another child sings for the first time.  Sometimes it’s that interesting fact about child development or that musical tip you can take home with you.  And then at home, you can find all kinds of musical parenting insight and support through the Home Materials.

You’ll have a Social Outlet, Too
Let’s face it.  Parenting a young child can be lonely sometimes.  It’s tough work too.  And that’s why so many adults tell us that they look forward to coming to Kindermusik as much as their child does!  In class, Kindermusik parents meet other adults with children – and challenges – that are similar.  And there’s nothing that inspires community and connection more than the circle dances and social activities that are built into every class.

You’ll Gain Tremendous Insight into your Child’s Heart and Mind
There’s something about being in a music class with a proven curriculum that’s been so carefully rooted in child development.  Being in a Kindermusik class opens various windows of understanding as you observe your child in the weekly class setting, interacting with other children and adults, participating and engaging in his/her own way, and even listening to the teacher.

You’ll Know – or be Able to Adapt – a Song for Nearly Every Situation
From the “toys away” song to that one lullaby that works every time, you’ll have a whole playlist of songs and rhymes to make day-to-day routines and transitions a little easier.  Best of all, these will be the kinds of songs you’ll enjoy singing – songs that bring a smile, soothe, distract, or inspire play.

You’ll Feel Really Good about Being Able to Enjoy an Activity with your Child that has Such a Lifelong Impact
It isn’t every day that the things you do with your child can strengthen your heart ties with each other or create the feelings of connection and stability that being in Kindermusik does.  And knowing that you are fostering a lifelong love of both music and learning makes being in Kindermusik all the more special.
You might think that you enrolled your child in Kindermusik because the Kindermusik experience is so good for him or her.  But after over 30 years of bringing children and families together in the Kindermusik classroom to enjoy and make music together, we can say with confidence that Kindermusik is just as good for the grownups who participate as it is for the children they bring to class each week.

Kindermusik: For every age & stage

"Every stage, or “season,” of early childhood has its triumphs and its challenges. At Kindermusik, we believe that music and movement should be a huge part of both the celebrations and the everyday moments of each stage of childhood."
Tune in this week as we highlight the new Kindermusik Ages & Stages class levels

Music: For Every Stage of Childhood

Every stage, or “season,” of early childhood has its triumphs and its challenges.  At Kindermusik, we believe that music and movement should be a huge part of both the celebrations and the everyday moments of each stage of childhood.
That’s why Kindermusik classes are not just filled with happy music and delightful activities for kids, but are also full of practical tips and musical helps for parents.  And it all comes packaged in such a way as to also give you invaluable insights into the way your child will grow and develop into the special individual he/she is meant to be.
Village baby with new logo
Babies need nurture.
The first years are all about connections and learning.  A lullaby will become a beautiful ritual before nap time.  A sweet little finger play makes bath time extra fun.  A quick dance around the kitchen provides a needed distraction around supper time.
In Kindermusik, we’ll teach you all of the songs, fingerplays, and dances you need, but we’ll also give you the time to settle in and savor these precious early years.  The window for learning is open the widest right now, and there’s nothing more powerful than music and movement.
Our Time girl with new logoToddlers need engagement.
Busy brains and busy little bodies need something to keep them active. And yet they thrive on predictability and routine.  Despite attempts to be fiercely independent, these busy little people still need you and they still need lots of cuddles.  And they do love their music!
We’ll help you add plenty of activity to your week – in class and at home.  And we’ll give you the music to dance to, the songs to sing, and the lullabies to hum, along with the insights you need to better understand this beautiful little person that is your child.
IT girl with new logoPreschoolers need adventure.
More than at any other stage, play is your preschool child’s work.  Play is how they’ll learn best.  The preschooler enjoys action and adventure, and he/she is eager for the kinds of rich experiences and interactions that will best help get him/her be ready for school, for music lessons, and for life.
Pretend play, big imaginations, socializing, and new musical concepts – all of these and more are how this stage of Kindermusik helps your child thrive and flourish.  Best of all, Kindermusik allows you to be part of the grand adventure of preparing for some very exciting transitions.
YC boy with new logoBig Kids need opportunity.
Your child seems so grown up all of the sudden, but he/she is not as grown up as you might think.  Now more than ever, your child needs to move, to explore, and to have fun even while being challenged with new ideas and ways to learn.  Your child is more than capable of learning the more specific musical concepts that will continue to foster a love for music and prepare him/her for that next step to formal music instruction.
As we capitalize on your child’s love of learning and making music with friends, we’ll also keep you involved through pressure-free music-making and simple activities at home.  You’ll learn right along with your child, and you’ll have the resources you need to make time for music and enjoy time with your child.
We’d love for you to come see for yourself how Kindermusik meets your child’s musical and developmental needs at every stage in early childhood, from newborn to age 7.

In I Can Do That, we’ll explore confidence boosting activities that also enhance language and steady-beat awareness as we explore social & emotional development.

We’ve got social, emotional, early language, and motor skill development covered, plus your child gets the added benefit of music permeating everything we do to get those neurons firing! Have you noticed your child’s explosion in vocabulary, storytelling, and imagination? We know that preschoolers thrive on pretend play so Kindermusik classes include songs, stories, and instrument ensembles to nurture your child’s budding creativity. Bonus: it’s fun for everyone! With cognitive, emotional, and social benefits, a Kindermusik class is the perfect place for you and your preschooler.

Enter a festive world of music, movement and carnival fun in our first unit for Fall – Carnival of Music!  We’ll join a marching band, hop on an imaginary merry-go-round, and play multisensory games.  Plus there will be lots of instruments, singing, creativity and fun!

Our unit, Splash! is full of water-filled delight and surprise!  We’ll develop number sense and practice one-to-one correspondence, explore pre-ensemble skills and pretend while we explore opposites to expand understanding of abstract concepts.  Plenty of new songs and familiar favourites will engage, stimulate and grow little minds & bodies.

Science & music meet in Outside My Window where we’ll explore rhythm and dynamics along with patterning and categorizing while we discuss and discover different seasons of weather.

Level 3 for preschoolers 3&4 years of age:
This drop-off style class for 3&4-year-olds fosters your child's growing independence while actively engaging their senses in a rich multi-sensory musical experience.  Preschoolers are actively expanding their base of knowledge through trial and error, talking, moving, and yes, even being a little silly at times!  There’s no limit as to how far a little imagination, a lot of music, the joy of being with friends, and some Sharing Time with family can take these eager learners who are also on their way to becoming independent learners. Unlimited Make Up Class policy

Missed Classes & Make-Up Classes
When you enroll your child in Kindermusik, there is a space set aside in class just for them!  However, we know that sometimes classes are missed due to illness, appointments or just "one of those days".  Did you know that your enrollment in Kindermusik With Mrs. Deb classes means unlimited make up classes?  Yes, you read that correctly - unlimited!  While attending your enrolled class is the best choice for your child, if you must miss a class due to illness or other reasons, you can request and schedule a make-up class.  This class might be the same program on another day, or your chance to try another age-appropriate class with your child. Make up classes don't expire so long as you remain consecutively enrolled in Kindermusik units.  Full details below.

Make up class policies:
·                     If you or your child is unwell (fever, diarrhea, vomiting, thick green or yellow nasal discharge) the best place for you is at home where you can rest and recover.
·                     I do appreciate a quick email or message if you will not be attending class.
·                     If you know in advance you will miss a class (work conflict, vacation) it is very much appreciated if you let me know as early as possible as this may allow someone else to use that space for a make-up class.  Knowing in advance you will be away for a class also means we can possibly schedule your make up class in advance of the class you know you will be absent for.
·                     Make up classes do not expire and can be carried between units and sessions as long as you remain consecutively enrolled in Kindermusik With Mrs. Deb unit offerings.
·                     Make up class arrangements are the responsibility of the parent/caregivers.  Mrs. Deb will suggest dates & times to you, but it is your responsibility to follow up and book the make up class.
·                     Make up classes must be arranged in advance.  Please understand if you simply show up for a make-up class you may be turned away due to lack of extra space & props available.
·                     Make up classes are generally available, but can not be guaranteed, please know I will do my very best for you and your family.
·                     Make up classes can be transferred between siblings in the same family.
·                     There are no refunds for missed classes for any reason.
·                     Missed classes cannot be used as payment for a new unit.
·                     If you have special circumstances or compassionate reasons, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Deb at anytime so we can work together for your unique situation.

Class Cancellation Policy: Winter Weather
Please check your email or the Facebook Page (
www.facebook.com/KindermusikWithDeb) before heading out to class if the weather is questionable. Decisions about class cancellations will be made by 8 am for day-time classes and 4 pm for evening classes based on in-town conditions.
Should adverse weather cause the closure of local schools (Northport Elementary or Saugeen Central), classes will automatically be cancelled for the day.
If classes are cancelled, those affected will be notified via email and there will be a post on the Facebook page. Please help out by acknowledging the Facebook post with a like or comment, or by replying to the email so we know you are aware as this cuts down on the number of follow-up phone calls that need to be made.
No post or email means classes are running as usual. As always, please use your own good judgement before heading out in wintry weather based on conditions where you live.

Class Cancellation Policy: Educator Illness, etc. In the event that a class must be cancelled due to instructor illness or other unforeseeable events, a post will be made on the Facebook page and an email sent to the affected classes. Please respond to one of these so we know you are aware. Additionally, if possible, a phone call will be made to those who have not responded to the email or Facebook post before the beginning of class time. A make-up class for any cancelled classes will be added to the end of the current unit, extending our session by a week. Please ensure your contact information is up-to-date on your my.kindermusik.com profile.

Kindermusik With Mrs. Deb Guidelines & Policies

Updated June 25, 2017
Welcome to Kindermusik With Mrs. Deb.  We want your family to enjoy a wonderful time of multi-sensory play and learning together.  To ensure everyone’s safety & enjoyment, please familiarize yourself with these policies.

Pre-class:
- Online pre-registration is required for all Kindermusik experiences to secure your space.  If you need to modify your enrollment for any reason, please communicate this via email.
- Payment is due before the first class begins.  You can choose to use a credit card during the online registration process, or you can choose “pay in person” to use cash, cheque or e-transfer.  A $5 late-payment-fee will be charged to families who do not submit payment for their reserved space before the first class day, even if you are unable to attend the first class.
- Receipts for units, sessions & playdates will be issued via email after payment is received, always by week 2 of a unit/session.  Create an email folder to collect these for reference during taxes time.
- Free preview classes are subject to available space in the requested classes.  Those enrolling for the unit or semester will have priority over those requesting a trial class.  There is a limit of one free preview per family.

Your child's Kindermusik classroom is full of exploration, creativity and fun.  In order to ensure your safety & enjoyment, please consider the following policies:
- Classes are held at Faith Lutheran Church, 525 Ivings Drive in Port Elgin, which is "behind" the LCBO/Giant Tiger plaza on the south end of town.
- Classes will begin on time as scheduled. Please plan to arrive before the beginning of class. You are welcome to arrive 5 or so minutes early to chat and participate in the gathering time activity. If you are running late, please join us as soon as you are able.
- Wear comfortable clothing. We will be sitting on the floor and moving around a lot.
- Just inside the double doors, you will find coat racks & places for boots/shoes.  You are welcome to bring any bags/purses to class and place them at the table at the back where they will be close, but out of reach of little explorers.
- While barefoot is best for learning, you are welcome to wear socks or soft slippers (such as Robeez or ballet slippers) with non-slip soles
- No food or hot drinks inside the classroom.  If your child requires a snack during class time, please remove them to the hallway and return when you are finished.  *Nursing or bottle feeding is always welcome & encouraged at anytime during class time if the need arises.  You can stay in the circle, or sit along the wall – whatever is most comfortable for you and your little ones
- If you think you'll need it, please bring water for you and your child in a non-spill or lidded cup as there is no water fountain in the biulding. Cups can be kept on the tables at the back of the room or on the cabinet along the door wall.
- Singing/chanting along is very much appreciated and welcome, but please do not feel you must sing. If you prefer not to sing, you can quietly chant the music/poems along with the group or softly in your child's ear. Your participation is important and provides a model to your child. Everyone's voice is unique, and many voices add depth and variation to the lyrics which in turn provides a richer experience for our children
- Choose a way to do the activities with your child that matches his/her developmental level and personality. The Kindermusik motto is to follow the child, allowing them to lead and participate in a way they are comfortable! There is no wrong way to participate and everyone learns from the variety we all bring to each class.
- Remember that above all else classes should be fun for everyone, especially the children. Children learn in their own way, in their own time, and some children will choose not to participate actively in all activities. This choice should be honoured and respected with the knowledge that passive participation & observation is equally valuable.
- Parents/caregivers are responsible for care and safety of their children at all times while in the building and participating in classes.
- Please be respectful of our venue by staying in designated areas (foyer, bathrooms, classroom).
